How to Maintain Natural Black Hair
Black hair ranges from curly to tightly kinked, with a wide variety of textures in-between. Improper hair care techniques can damage African hair. An African person may even have more than one hair type.
  •     Wet hair and apply shampoo. Slowly work the shampoo throughout the hair, from scalp to tips, massaging deeply. Thoroughly rinse the shampoo out.
  •     Apply conditioner and work it throughout the hair, massaging deeply to ensure that every strand of hair is coated. Leave the conditioner in the hair for 5 minutes, and then gently rinse it away.
  •     Use a towel to dry out water from the hair, leaving it moist but not dripping wet. Use hands to gently divide the hair into four sections. Use a hair pick and slowly comb any tangles out of each section.
  •     Dry the hair with a blow dryer. Avoid heat drying if your hair is damaged.
  •     Moisturize the hair by applying a cream moisturizer, or oil moisturizer. Use your hands or a wide tooth comb to expose the scalp. Massage the moisturizer into the scalp and throughout the length of the hair to the ends. The hair should look shiny, but it should not be overly saturated. Style as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  •   Black hair tangles easily, so always work as gently as possible while washing, styling and maintaining.
  •   If the hair becomes dry, use a spray between washings.
  • Never attempt to comb out tangled hair while it is dry. This creates too much friction and can break the hair.
  •  Never use bristle brushes on very kinky hair. The hair shaft includes bends or "L" shapes, and the brush can break the hair at these points.
Maintaining Dreadlocks
Dreadlocks do not require as much work as normal hair but there are a few things you should do to keep them looking, and smelling nice.

Dreadlocks should be washed every 2 to 3 days. If you do not want to wash them this often that is fine, just make sure you wash them at least once a week. Dreadlocks should be washed in a shampoo that leaves nothing behind in the hair and removes all residues that is in the hair.

Instructions for healthy looking dreads
  •    Wash and condition your dreadlocks regularly. One of the biggest misconceptions about dreadlocks is that they are unclean. Like any other hairstyle, wash dreadlocks regularly using a mild, clear shampoo to prevent build-up. Conditioning the hair is optional.
  •     Cover your dreadlocks every night. Before going to bed, cover your head with a simple silk or satin scarf or any of the many specialty wraps on the market for dreadlocks. This is essential to maintaining a neat style. Covering the hair prevents dreadlocks from becoming fuzzy or frizzy from the friction of the hair against the pillowcase at night.
  •    Avoid using excessive hair products. Simple is best when it comes to styling and maintaining neat and attractive dreadlocks. Products like beeswax, heavy pomades and sticky gels attract dirt and lint to hair.

Maintaining a weave
ΓΌ  Once you have your weave sew-in, use a  head scarf and tie your hair down at night.
  •     Each night before you "tie it down" take a paddle brush and detangle the weave, braid it up with a pony tail holder on the end. This keeps the hair from becoming matted and tangles which can lead to shedding.
  •      When you wash the weave, do not let it air-dry.
  •      When it comes time to remove your extensions, have a professional do it to ensure that your own hair is not damaged or pulled out in the process.

We certainly hope you find the information useful. Have a good hair day
